{"id":30,"date":"2011-10-22T00:04:44","date_gmt":"2011-10-22T00:04:44","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.belteddeep.com\/?p=30"},"modified":"2011-10-22T00:04:44","modified_gmt":"2011-10-22T00:04:44","slug":"bristol-wins-one-for-robinson","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.belteddeep.com\/?p=30","title":{"rendered":"Bristol Wins One for Robinson"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>For the first time in League history, the coveted BDB Championship Trophy was claimed by long time Robinson resident, the Bristol Wicketmen.<\/p>\n<p>Regarding the victory, owner Geoff Haddock had this to say&#8230;<\/p>\n<p>Well, I need to be honest.\u00a0\u00a0 I really expected Bristol to be a real contender for a DMB championship.\u00a0 Alas, it was the Bristol Academicals of the LP2 Baseball League (the Accies won 101 games, but lost in the playoffs).\u00a0 As for the Wicketmen, I figured they\u2019d win 75-80 games. \u00a0[*** BDB Management considers the LP2 League a distant Cousin League&#8230; its more of a Renegade League run by Anti-Canadian Joe Chapman ***] \u00a0After their typical strong start, I expected the Wicketmen to perform their annual swoon on around May 17.\u00a0 But they kept on plugging away and built up a pretty strong lead that the Pathfinders, Menace, and Nationals could not overcome.<\/p>\n<p>As for the playoffs, well, it\u2019s pretty much a coin flip.\u00a0 The Wickets somehow managed to win a series in which they struck out 94 times.\u00a0 Yes, 94.\u00a0 As for the final, wow.\u00a0 When I saw that the Wickets won despite a negative run differential, it brought to mind the 1960 World Series.\u00a0 The Wicketmen continued to rely on the long ball \u2013 25 in 14 playoff games.\u00a0 World Series MVP Jed Lowrie led the way, hitting 4 longballs and batting .480.\u00a0 My commiserations to Bryn \u2013 the Sharks had another great season.<\/p>\n<p>Thanks to the commish for another great BDB season.\u00a0 Here\u2019s to a lively off-season!<\/p>\n<p>Geoff<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>For the first time in League history, the coveted BDB Championship Trophy was claimed by long time Robinson resident, the Bristol Wicketmen.
